Two years have past since Environmental Civil Engineering Department and Architecture Department were reorganized into integrated Civil and Arch itecture Department at Hachinohe Institute of Technology. The new department aims at cultivating the local human resources in the civil and architecture fields besides working on the subjects for the solution and making a contribution to the local community. Given that Environmental Civil Engi neering Department, one of the pr edecessors, was first admitted as one of the outstanding educational institutions in the civil engineering field in Japan by JABEE, it is highly expected to continue the educational improvements and maintain fascinating education. Our college has conducted many improvement activities such as self-reflection activity and faculty-development activity. Through these activities, the quality of engineer ing education could be kept highly and fulfilled thoroughly. The new department is expected to give birth to something attractive both individually and collectively. Our original education-satisfaction inquiry has been conducted for long to get clues for teaching improvement. This paper describes our tack ling with the educational improvement activity and education-satisfaction inquiry for students.

In recent years, lifestyle related diseases are in creasing in adults, obesity is also increasing in elementary school students. And, traffic and envi ronmental education program is main theme of the mobility management in school education. Theref ore, we analyzed the influence of traffic and environmental education program by adding health aspect. Subject of this study is the 5th grade students and their parents in Hadano, Kanagawa. By comparing the two groups (group attended the course of this research program, group attended the course of traffic and environmental education program), we analyzed the effects of different ed ucation programs. The results show that the impact of different school than the impact of different education programs. However, the results is, in addition to activation of knowledge about the environment and transport as much as traffic and environm ental education program, also showed that the activation of health consciousness.

Civil engineering technology and public works are very important for the sake of spending comfortable life and development of many industries. Our modern society has a lot of new and difficult problems to solve such as global warming, declining birthrate, aging and antiquated industrial infrastructure. In order to develop such a society further, civil engineering takes an extremely important role. A civil engineering workshop for elementary school teachers was held to cultivate a better understanding of the role, in close cooperation with the teachers from a local university and elementary schools. A deep understanding for civil engineering will lead to a better education in the local elementary schools. This paper introduces the background of in-service training, planning, results and a few thoughts on the evaluation.

This study analyzed change in disaster consciousness of participants in disaster lecture which was implemented by authors. We analyzed five aspects of disaster consciousness by using ordered logit model, then we found out relationship among disaster consciousness, contents of lecture and individual attributes.
As a result, higher consciousness was observed in junior high school students and residential people. Concerning contents of lecture, experienced contents such as on-site tour, experimentation and Disaster Imagination Game affected to form higher disaster consciousness.

We found degradation of technological ability of local government engineers from items indicated by Board of Audit. And then, we discussed causes of the degradation. So we proposed the plans of improvement with practical examples. The first example is to learn indicated items. The second one is to get technical qualification. The third one is to devise method of design and construction in construction site. The last one is to make a paper and present it at technical conference.

In this paper, the aim and procedure are reported about "model production training of single-layered lattice roof" that carried out in Saga University in 2010.
This training has two major features. One is to determine the equilibrium shapes of geometry of single-layered lattice roof by numerical analysis based on geometrical nonlinearity theory, and the other is to construct "the miniature model" made of straws, patinko globes and magneto bars, using the data obtained by the numerical analysis.
Through this training, the students succeeded in acquiring "sense of mechanics" which is very useful even in real construction sites.
