Two beagle dogs of 195 males and 195 females from Marshall Farm Inc., NY, USA, had abnormal findings in optic fundus before using toxicologic studies in our facility. On routine opthalmic examination, one male (Case 1: 10-month-old at receipt) showed no tapetum lucidum in both eyes, and the other one male (Case 2: 6-month-old) showed increasing reflectivity at the upper side of the optic disk in both eyes. Further special examinations, including fluorescein angiography, electroretinograms, and histopathological examination were conducted and we diagnosed Case 1 as tapetum coloboma and Case 2 as retinal dysplasia, respectively.
