It is in the 2000s that many inconsistencies and institutional fatigue, as well as the demand for reform, were pointed out with respect to the existing systems of the publishing and book distribution industries. How did the studies on publishing and book distribution in the period cope with the above-mentioned problems of the industries, which have much in common with those in the current era? This article will clarify the achievement of such studies in the 2000s, by rearrangement of the research results published in the period in an context of the actual public industry, including digitalization, online bookstores, the consignment system, the resale price maintenance and the history of book distribution.
