In this paper, I focus the 1970s and 1980s, from the time of Sonorama- Bunko's first publication to its heyday, and clarify how Sonorama-Bunko formed the characteristics to be regarded as a origin of Light Novel. In addition, I will examine what Sonorama-Bunko's challenges were in terms of its publishing strategy, especially in the latter half of the 1980s.

This paper analyzed the practice of selling manuscripts on the street by the publishers and writers of the magazine “Bungei Shijou(Literary market)” in 1925-1926. It became clear that this practice was a criticism of the art world dominated by fame, and that behind this practice was the assertion of the writers that ‘handwritten manuscripts’ should be regarded as traces of the writers' physical labor, and be recognized as a commodity.
Koutaibon, collections of popular phrases taken from Noh songs, were widely published throughout the Edo period. Since both content and format were to a large extent pre-established, a close comparison of these books illuminates the editorial choices made by the different publishers. This study focuses on the contrasts in style and technique between the wellknown Urokogataya and Tsutaya publishing houses.
