An extension on Kirchhoff-Rayleigh theory for inhomogeneous elastic plate is proposed with respect to the covariance of expressions under the coordinate rotation. The covariance is definitely expressed by tensor basis, which also enables to formulate flexural wave according to the weak form framework and to obtain a generalized expression of the boundary condition and the energy flux.

We propose a numerical verification method for existence and bounds of closed orbits of solutions to ODEs, where the methods for validated computation are adopted. The closed orbit and its period are specified simultaneously using Poicare Map and the Newton method, which allows us simpler implementation than existing methods. A numerical example on the Rossler equation is shown to verify the existence of a closed orbit in practice.

Many traffic flow models are proposed for analysis of traffic jams. The fundamental diagram indicating a relation of flux and densities of cars has a phase transition in actual car flow data. A stochastic optimal velocity (SOV) model has been studied well because it expresses the transition. However, parameter tuning is necessary for the transition, and any tuning method has not been established. The present paper proposes statistical parameter estimation based on features of the diagram, and experimentally evaluates the validity.

In this paper, a new method is shown to obtain developed patterns of conical origami shells from ones of cylinders by using conformal transformation. It enables to design foldable structures systematically, controlling angles among fold lines for maintaining the advanced function of folding and developing at will. Also, it is described the mathematical interrelation of two-dimensional origami patterns between cylinders and conical shells, and advantages on applying the mathematical technique on designs of origami structures. The method is to help us to imagine and model new foldable structures for future.

In this paper, we aim at improvement of convergence rate of Flexible GMRES(k) method regarded as one of variants of preconditioned GMRES(k) method. For realization of this purpose, we adopt of separative type of multi-restarts Look-Back GMRES(k, m) method. In outer iteration of the proposed Flexible GMRES(k) method, multi-restarts strategy is used. On the other hand, in its inner iteration, multi inner iterations is used. Through numerical experiments, we verify effectiveness of the proposed Flexible GMRES(k, m) method.

An a priori error estimate of the DtN (Drichlet-to-Neumann) finite element method for the linear water wave scattering problem due to bodies without forward speed in a 3D infinite water region with finite depth is established. The estimate accounts for the effects of truncation of infinite Fourier series representing the DtN boundary condition as well as of discretization of the finite element method. To estimate the error due to the truncation, several properties of the Hankel functions and the modihed Bessel functions are demonstrated.
