The movement of teeth in orthodontic therapy is made by the applied pressure or displacement via the bracket and wire system. The previous study revealed that enough movement of teeth could not be obtained as long as continuum models were considered for teeth and their surrounding tissues. This paper proposes a new orthodontic mandible model that takes into account the springback of the wire and the remodeling of the alveolar bone. The metastasis behavior of teeth simulated is similar to the one observed in an orthodontic therapy clinic. Sufficient amount of teeth movement is obtained by the springback of the wire but not by only pulling the both sides of the wire.

This paper motivates to present the outline of a CAE code COSMAP followed by the summary of theory and analysis method in simulation code available to describing heat treatment process under developing. The results of simulation in the course of carburized quenching and caburizing-nitriding processes are illustrated with some discussions. The validity of the simulation code is verified to compare with the experiment result during the international project IMS-VHT.

Considering that the mechanisms for both strains are essentially with no difference from metallurgical viewpoint, the constitutive equation for transformation plastic strain rate is expected to be described in relation with plasticity theory. This paper motivates to derive a unified constitutive model including transfomration-induced and ordinal thermo-mechanical plastic strain rates by introducing the effect of varying phases during phase transformation into yield function. Thus derived model is applied to simulate temperature-elongation diagram by use of a kinetic rate equation of induced phase.

The MPS method is a particle method which simulates continnum dynamics with discrete one, which is dynamics of particles. Thus it is relatively easy by particle methods to simulate complicated phenomena in multiphase flows or fluid-structure interaction. In this study, a micro-dispenser reported in Lindemann et al. (2004) is simulated using the MPS method. This microfluidic device offers a challenging problem of fluid-structure interaction and multiphase flow, where deformation of the elastic tube interacts with fluid flow and droplets are ejected changing the topology of the surfaces. The results are compared with the experiment to investigate applicability of the MPS method.

We are developing a parallel eigenvalue solver for complicated large-scale problems which can be applied to MEMS. For 5,000,000 shell elements i.e. 30,000,000 degrees of freedom, 5000 eigenvalues and eigenvectors can be obtained by this solver in several hours by using a parallel computer with 16processors and 8GB memory for each processor. In our algorithms, multi-level mode synthesis techniques that subdivide the structure into numerous sub domains are applied. This method is suitable for parallel computation. In this report, the algorithm of this eigensolver and parallel programming technique (speedup technique and memory usage) is described.

This paper describes the 3D complicated crack propagation analysis using the Free Mesh Method (FMM). The computational fracture mechanics involves frequent re-meshing as the crack propagates. In order to show the effectiveness of the FMM in crack propagation analysis, we study the 3D Complicated crack propagation problems with the FMM. Comparing with 2D analysis result, the 3D effect on crack propagation is studied.
