Recently, the installations of the elevator and escalator equipment to a public space is advanced. The accident number of senior citizens is remarkable and an increase is remarkable increase the number of users of the escalator. Moreover, the energy consumption reduction is advanced as a approach on measures for controlling Global warming in each industry, and the reduction in the energy consumption is requested the escalator. Then, we worked on the development of a new escalator that pursued high safety and energy conservation.

Recently, the high-frequency leakage currents by voltage-source PWM inverter of an elevator cause EMI (electro magnet interference) to other equipment. Although an insulated transformer is effective, it is required an improvement environmentally because of large-sized and a heavy load. This paper proposes a new passive filter for reducing the leakage currents and reports other effects to the external equipment. This new passive filter has a bypass circuit between input and output of an inverter, extracts only the high-frequency leakage currents and performs returning to an inverter. It has attained 1/15 or less weight saving and the large miniaturization to an insulated transformer.

We have studied the elevator with electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) based energy storage system. This paper shows detailed power simulation using the RC-ladder equivalent circuit, which has a voltage dependent capacitor and considering power supply by power source, braking resistance, and series connection of EDLC. Simulation result shows that the energy saving depends mainly on internal-resistance and capacitance of EDLC. The simulation result also shows that EDLC with low internal-resistance is suited for this system and energy saving rate over 40% is obtained.

About 50% of the accidents that involves passengers happen near the door. Each elevator company has taken measures to prevent children's hands from getting pinched in the door. Today, a popular method is to stop the door motion when it detects a signal. However, OTIS's method is to prevent the accidents. It is to stop the door motion when the hands are sucked. It detects the trouble when the accident is about to happen. We have established the product performance and evaluation method to prevent the accidents and to secure safety. We have developed two devices. One is a "Mechanical" device using a micro switch and the other is an "Optical" device that detects change of light beam. We have made test pieces based on physical characteristic data of human body, and evaluated the device.

This paper describes a simulation model used for examining sinking acceleration of an elevator caused by forklift front wheels get on it. When the front wheels of the forklift get on a freight elevator, vertical vibration of the elevator will be generated with the elasticity of the suspension ropes. As a result, it tends to cause slipping between the rope and the sheave. Therefore, when we design traction ability of the sheave, we need to consider not only the static load in the elevator but also dynamic load. In this research, a simulation model that can express the process of the forklift loading is proposed for estimating sinking acceleration of an elevator.

Recently, the buildings are built to large scale and multilayer. A lot of buildings of over 400m in height are constructed in foreign countries. The transportation capacity improvement of the elevator is necessary according to building to large scale and multilayer. To reduce the number of the installation of the elevator, it is demanded to be able to transport the large number of people. We developed large capacity and high-speed elevators, and delivered them to Shanghai World Financial Center. It reports on the technology of driving system that supports large capacity and high-speed elevators.

Recently, high speed elevators are strongly desired. But generally, it causes the increase of the deformation and vibration of the traveling cable. In a bad case, it collides with the side of the cage or facilities in the shaft, but studies about the traveling cable are very few. Behavior analysis of the traveling cable sway by the finite element method (FEM) was conducted and the validity of the analysis was confirmed. However, it took long time, so the analysis by multibody dynamics (MBD) is investigated in this paper. Good results were obtained by visco-elastic modeling with temperature dependent parameters. Furthermore, the collision analysis of traveling cable was conducted by MBD and the validity of the proposed analysis was confirmed through experiments using short length real cable.

It's very important to secure any person's safety, even if he/she uses wheel chair in the hospital or welfare house. In case of fire, we conduct experiments how to take refuge from the hospital. We discover the new facts, that what we suggest. (1) It's very important to decide the carer's role clearly who are in the outbreak floor. They also should extinguish the fire, contact to other staff, and many things to do. (2) It takes long time to release the wheelchair's brake, it makes longer time to refuge.

Evacuation methods (elevator control method and instructions of evacuation) using elevators and stairs have been studied in tall buildings, and we proposed the evacuation method which give the shortest evacuation time. In this paper, we studied the evacuation time without special elevator control and instructions of evacuation. The results show the occupants of every floor flow into stairs in early stage of the evacuation and after then no one use elevators. If there is information that elevators are usable, the evacuation time can be short considerably.

This paper describes a fire evacuation plan with elevator for the weak, like handicapped persons, babies, little children, and aged persons in residential building. In recent years, the number of high-rise residential buildings has been increasing. It is difficult for weak persons to take refuge from upper floors to the ground floor in the emergency like a fire. An evacuation using elevator for the weak is planed in a part of hospital or welfare facilities. But high-rise residential building is different from these building, and then it is difficult to establish leading and controlling organization for evacuation. We proposed emergency exclusive button service with priority zone service to solve those problems. We estimated the evacuation completion time. The estimation results shows that the evacuation completion time of the weak using elevator is almost same with it in of general persons on foot. We evaluate safety with rank-matrix method, and select building safety measures with the evaluation results.

In recent years, facilities that attract a large group of people (leisure facilities), typified as amusement facilities became diversified as leisure industry diversified in various fields. In Japan, since the opening of Tokyo Disney Land in 1983, main players of amusement facilities have shifted from traditional simple "amusement parks" to "theme parks" that have been built around various different themes. The term "theme park" refers to facilities that collect entertainment attractions that built around specific themes, and usually have adjacent museums, hotels, and commercial facilities in the same area to attract more people. Similarly, "rides" in amusement parks have evolved to "attractions" that provide more thrills with entertaining presentations. This report states study results about safety of these ride systems and related codes to evaluate technical trends of amusement rides and devices.

This technology obliquely presses multiple elastic rod in respect of parallel wall surfaces. And, the falling of the movement machine is prevented by contact friction force. In addition, the tip of elastic rod moves pressurization and unloading to wall surface on this machine by the elastic force of elastic rod, and it repeatedly moves in shell two dimensions. Generally, the vertical movement of the machine which moves wall surface is done using rope and chain by the roll-up style of the motor. However, the movement machine itself moves, though this method is pulled, though the machine does do not move it, and though the main body is retained by the self-help. Moreover, it moves by the control of the computer.

The Space Elevator is a space transportation system that is a radical departure from rocket-based space travel. Contrary to our first intuition, it is actually possible to construct a physical "track to space", such that leaving the planet will involve riding out rather than rocketing out. Building the space elevator system takes two steps - laying the track, and running the climbing mechanism. In this report, the deformation and vibration of the climbing cable and the dynamic response of the climbing mechanism was analyzed and investigating to reduce the vibration of the climbing cable and appropriate climbing mechanism.

The traditional elevator system has been applying enforced displacement excitation with a shaking table for its seismic resistant evaluation. Generally, the experiment of enforced displacement excitation requires a huge specific facility to shake a test body, so that such an excitation system is not suitable for ordinary experiments. In this paper, a new seismic resistant evaluation system is proposed, which is easy to use and adjustable to the actual elevator test facility. The proposed system installs several exciters in the car and they induce inertia force against the car. Therefore, the car excitation is realized by a compact system. As the system doesn't need any additional equipment in the elevator shaft, it is appropriate to do the excitation test in the existing test shaft. Several experiment results also show validity of the new excitation system.

This paper proposes an escalator that can suppress earthquake displacement of an over-track post-house. The escalator is fixed to a pit under a platform and is connected to the post-house through a load-limiting mechanism using low yield stress steel. A method for modeling the frame of the escalator can be easily applied to frames with various specifications. The frame, a welded part, and a bolt joint are modeled as a shell element, a tying between nodes on a pair of lines, and a tying between nodes on vertices of octagons meaning bolt holes, respectively. A series of experiments with a test model demonstrated the validity of the model. The designed escalator has 683 kN allowable load, 6.5 mm allowable deformation, and 160 kN/mm stiffness.
