Snowdrift on and around a structure or a micro-topography brings about various snow damage. A snow wind tunnel test using model snow is a useful method for investigating snowdrift problems. However, the similarity law for this wind tunnel test has not yet been established. And the test operation is very difficult. In the meantime, snowdrift is closely related to the wind flow. The authors have been investigating the characteristics of both airflow and snowdrift around a two-dimensional collector snow fence1-3). The characteristics of airflow were measured by means of boundary layer wind tunnel test. And the characteristics of snowdrift were observed in a field measurement. This paper describes the relationship between the flow near the snow surface and the snowdrift patterns. Consequently, between the snowdrift and acceleration of the wind velocity in close vicinity of the snow surface, any correlation was confirmed.

Several papers have been written in the past about snow sliding tests and about the properties of snow sliding on a membrane roof. Those tests were done using an apparatus that were only several meters long. The static sliding friction properties of a largescale structure such as a dome may agree well with the results of those tests, however, as the sliding speed may differ much from those tests, it was necessary to develop an estimation method of resisting force when applying it to an actual structure. In this study, snow sliding tests were executed with an actual size membrane roof that is more than 40 meters long. As a result, it was learned that increase in sliding speed hardly influenced the kinetic friction force and it was proved that it is necessary to consider air resisting force in addition to viscostic resisting force in a large-scale structure.

In order to understand the basic parameters that cause the frost damage of concrete in a natural environment, exposure experiments of concrete specimens were conducted. Concrete specimens with two different water-cement ratios were exposed in a natural en-vironment with or without sheltering by a roof protection, and the variation of tem-perature and relative humidity inside the specimens were measured. Based on analyses of the measured data, several useful results were obtained and discussed.
