Compression therapy, injection of steroids, and steroid-containing tape have been reported as keloid treatments, but there have been many negative reports regarding surgical treatment for keloid scarring. Recently, combination radiotherapy with surgery was demonstrated to be useful for refractory keloid treatment. We conducted a retrospective study of 70 cases. The before and after of local steroid injection or surgical treatment were compared using the Japan Scar Workshop Scar Scale. Improvements were noted with local steroid injection. Even in cases where local steroid injection did not have sufficient effects, the combination of surgery and radiation led to an improvement.
