Avulsed flaps of the extremities caused by degloving injuries eventually develop extensive skin necrosis in most cases. Therefore, it is difficult to decide whether to preserve or excise the avulsed flaps. We treated a total of 5 patients with degloving injuries of the extremities using the quilting suture technique. The avulsed flap was sewn back to the original position and then secured by quilting sutures. If the flap was thick and included adipose tissue, the distal portion of the flap was defatted in advance. Four of the five flaps took excellently. One flap exhibited partial necrosis and required conservative treatment. The quilting suture technique may be a better treatment option for avulsion flap injury of the extremities.
