Twelve male patients with benign essential hypertension treated with the KAMPO, traditional herbs for 2 years showed more satisfactory results both in subjective complaints and in laboratory examinations than those treated with conventional medicines for hypertension.
In many hypertension patients improved by KAMPO treatment, the slight elevation of serum uric acid level was noted without relapse of hypertension or any complications.
This elevation of serum uric acid, considered to be the initial sign of the change of SHO seems to preceed the onset of subjective symptome or other SHISHIN findings.
It is generally believed that MYAKUSIN and HUKUSHIN as the constituents of SHO are not so easy for the unexperienced. Therefore, introduction of the laboratory data to the classical SHO may be useful for KAMPO treatment. But the conventional interpretation of laboratory data seems to be insufficient for it.
The new interpretation may be most necessary for modernization of SHO by introduction of laboratory data.

In the previous paper, we reported that the introduction of laboratory biochemical data to the classical SHO might be significant for KAMPO treatments. The conventional interpretation of laboratory data, however, seems to be insufficient for its application to KAMPO treatments.
The new interpretation based on In-Yo theory must be necessary for modernizaiton of SHO through the introduction of laboratory examination. For this purpose, such a new understanding of the laboratory data, apart from the conventional interpretation of data-normal or abnormal-in KAMPO treatments must be needed. A synthetic vector analysis of laboratory data was carried out in this study.
