A microplatform moving freely on machining surface was developed. It is made from a so1eno1d with coi1ed springs and two electromagnets. Motion like a worm behavior is app1ied to its basic mec11anism. The solenoid plays an important role to actuate translationally the micro-platform with the help of the springs. On the other hand, the electromagnet acts as a fixer which keeps rigid1y the microplatform on the machining surface. A prototype of microplatform with the maximum stroke is 0.65 [mm], time constants in 30.5 (excited), 32.5 (unexcited) [ms], respectively and velocity 2 [mm/s], is reported in this paper.

Constant-speed and speed-contro11ed superplastic forging processes of a titanium alloy into a watch case back have been analyzed by the finite element method (FEM). In the superplastic forging, it generally takes a long time for shaping and it is difficult to decide shaping conditions and dimensions of preforms and dies. It is possible to evaluate the forging load, stress distribution and deformation state by this method even in the speed-controlled forging whose speed is decreased step by step. By using the FEM analysis, it is found that the speed-controlled forging may be effective for the decrease in the forging 1oad and improvement of the shaping abillty.

Recently,a sport comes to attract attention with the rapid expansion of the market. It starts the development of the multiple function sport watches which made the most of the latest electronics tecltnology as soon as possible, and our company introduces it in the market in the field of the sport watch. The diver's watches which the depth of water measturing fttnction was carried on are our company main force goods even of that. This time, it is reported to diver's watch of this depth of water measuring function load because it succeeded in the production of the "ECO DRIVE DEPTH METER" Cal.B74 which a battery exchange carried unnecessary accident generating electricity technology "ECO DRIVE" on. Cal.B74 carries the charging level indication function which can confirm the amount of charge before diving starts in addition to the depth of water measuring system and the time hand drive system of the new design optimized in the solar charging system.

This paper describes a study on disk vibration of miniature optical storage. The storage uses optical probe cantilevers mounted on an air-bearing slider. Design guidelines for the storage can be obtained by the experintental results of two type of rotor vibrations repeatable runout (RRO) and non-repeatable runout (NRRO). The anplitudes of the cantilever vibration are simulated by modeling RROs as sinusoidal vibrations and NRROs as random vibrations. In case of a 100μm silicon cantilever, the relative displacement from tip to fixed end is calculated as 17Onm for φ120mm disks at 6O00rpm. The displacement can be reduced to less than lOnm when miniaturizing the disk dianteter as φ1 inch on the same driving condition.

The coupled vibration of micro-cantilevers is analyzed to develop high-speed information and sensing devices that use micro-actuator arrays. Main causes for it are the airflow around cantilevers and the elastic deformation of the root of cantilevers. The former is calculated by replacing the cantilevers with strings of spheres, combining the airflow force of spheres with an ordinary beam equation. The latter is analyzed by using FEM. By combining two results, the relationship between cantilever design parameters and total vibration amplitude is indicated graphically.
