The aim of this study is to clarify how to conduct fair performance appraisal of managers. In this study, a case study was conducted on Company A. Company A is a greenhouse vegetable corporation. In Company A, two managers who are regular employees manage two respective departments. To clarify how to conduct fair performance appraisal, we analyzed the performance appraisal of managers in Company A, focusing on procedural justice.
As a result of the study, it was found that Company A had a fair performance appraisal system; i.e., it was designed and utilized in consideration of procedural fairness in subjective evaluation and accurate indicators consistent with authority in objective evaluation, and that the system functioned effectively as a system for performance appraisal of managers.
