Tungsten carbide (WO3) nanoparticles have been prepared by thermal decomposition at 793K of the complex which are composed of ammonium paratungstate,citric acid and ammonia solution. The diameter of the nanoparticles is 20 to 80nm. In this study, when the precursor contains amino group and citric acid as ligands, and the crystal structure of the precursor is different from APT and tungsten acid, the significant reduction in particle size is confirmed.

Organic-inorganic flexible substrate has been developed using organic-inorganic materials and ultra thin glasses. The newly developed substrate has a good flexibility and high gas-barrier. And the new color filter formation technique using ink-jet method has been developed on this substrate. This technique is high-speed and simple. It is expected as new color filter manufacturing process.

Highly crystalline Eu3+ doped yttria nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction in supercritical water using a continuous flow reaction system. The XRD results revealed that the crystal phase of as-prepared particles was YOOH and converted to cubic-phase Y2O3 after annealing above 550C. Primarily particle size of the YOOH was as small as less than 50 nm. The as-prepared particles exhibited red emission without annealing at high temperatures, whereas photoluminescent intensity at 612 nm was increased with an increase in the annealing temperature.

We report new flexible “marshmallow-like” aerogels and xerogels with a bendable feature from the di- and trifunctional organosilane co-precursor systems. A 2-step acid/base sol–gel process and surfactant are employed to control the phase separation of the hydrophobic networks, which give porous monolithic gels. The obtained gels from methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and dimethyldimethoxysilane (DMDMS) become softer and more flexible with increasing DMDMS fractions.

Structural analysis of glycol-modified silanes (GMS), which are a series of water-soluble silicon compounds, was performed in terms of 29Si NMR and FT-IR measurements. According to NMR spectra, as-prepared GMS consisted of TEOS, and one, two, three and four substituted GMS with deprotonated glycols. It confirmed that the formation reaction of the four glycol substituted GMS proceeded during vacuuming. At the same time, a formation of a dimer was also detected. We will also present a preparation of a new water soluble silicon complex.

3 fine particles were prepared by hydrothermal reaction using Bi(NO
3)
3•5H
2O and Fe(NO
3)
3•9H
2O as starting materials in KOH solution. The X-ray powder diffraction pattern of the product synthesized under the condition of K/Bi molar ratio of 160 at 180ºC showed a single phase of the perovkite-type BiFeO
3. The lattice parameters of that powder sample were a=5.5844(9) and c=13.867(1)A with the hexagonal cell, and these values agreed well with the published ones (a=5.57874(16) and c=13.8688(3)A).

Ammonium molybdate and titanium tetraisopropoxide treated in ethylene glycol at under 463 K under autogeneous pressure (solvothermal treatment) yielded amorphous precursors. Well-crystalline molybdenum oxide powder could be obtained after calcination of the precursors at 773K for 3 hours. In the case of the precursors obtained by reactions of aluminum acetate and ammonium molybdate, the crystalline aluminum molybdate produced after the similar calcination.

Colorless transparent titanate aqueous solution (TNB-TMAOH) was prepared by direct reaction of titanium tetra-n-butoxide (TNB) with tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH). In the present work, low temperature synthesis of barium titanate (BaTiO
3), starting from a mixture of TNB-TMAOH + aqueous barium compound solution, was studied. We found that BaTiO
3 particles were prepared by heating the mixture aqueous solution adjusted at pH 13.5 of TNB-TMAOH and Ba(OH)
2 at even the low temperature of 50
oC for 10 h. in a well-closed bottle. XRD results showed that barium carbonate was recognized at low synthesis temperature (<100
oC) and it disappeared at synthesis temperature over 100
oC.

Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) thin films were prepared by Metal Organic Decomposition (MOD) method. It was investigated that the effects of Pb content, temperature of sintering, annealing or non-annealing, and facing or not during post annealing process on the crystallinity of PMN epitaxial thin films. The 10at%Pb-rich PMN film annealed at 973 K with facing on substrates indicated the better crystallinity than the films grown under another conditions.

Layered oxides can show unusual electric and magnetic properties owing to the two-dimensional crystal structure. Here we have developed a solution process to prepare a novel layered copper oxide intercalated with organic anions. The synthesized samples have layered structure based on the XRD data. SQUID measurements showed a paramagnetic-like behavior in all samples.

Development of precise shape control technique of nanoparticles is necessary in various application fields. In his study, we report skeletal silica nanoparticles composed of twelve nanoframes and six square windows, through sol-gel reaction using cubic template whose surface is coated by surfactant. The shape controlling factors are (a) high acidity of silanol compared to that of surfactant, (b) low affinity between surfactant and organic medium, and (c) high surface energy of vertex and edge of the template, are associated to obtain such structures. These structures are expected to exhibit specific properties such as optical materials, drug carriers, heat insulation materials, catalyst supporters, etc.
