There are two types of qaulity.

    (1)Customer Quality : that a customer wants

(2)Engineered Quality : that a customer does not want

The former is the feature including performance and the later customer's loss due to failure of performance, operational cost and public pollution. Produt planning, product design and production people are a hundred percent resiponsible on quality as other people do nothing on the quality. Product planning people are resiponsible fbr market size due to customer quality. Product design people must be resiponsible 93.75% of market claims and manufacturing people 6.25% when the safety factor is 4. Because the loss function is proportionate to the square deviation from target function and the square of 0.25 is 0.0625. All the recall problems by poor design is a hundred percent resiponsible by quality assurance people as it is caused by miss-judgement of the quality of the products. The recall problems by miss of production people is a hundred percent resiponsible by quality control people. When the cause is unknown. We need life test for functionality due to unknown item or animal test for poisoness by unknown items.

In the injection molding process, it is required to form the products of any shape using any type of resin within the capability of a machine. In most cases, quality has been evaluated by dimension. But in order to meet the requested product shape or resin type, molding conditions have been changed by varying the cavity shape of the mold, the component parts of the machine, etc.

In this report, both transformability and bending test were studied for crystal and non-crystal type resins. Gate position, heat related deterioration and fatigue were considered as the outer noise. The relationship between transformability and bending test was also examined.

In order to efficiently detect the bugs of software, orthogonal arrays have been proposed and used as a tool in Quality Engineering. In this approach, all functions in the software are considered as signals. Those signals are assigned to an orthogonal array for functional evaluation. Based on such approach, an idea was brought up that tile same approach might be applied for the areas other than software. In this study, a trial was made to evaludte the functions of a copy machine.

The functions of a copy machine such as enlargement or reduction were assigned to an L18 orthogonal array assignals. Copying was conducted according to the conditions of each run in the array. The copied image was evaluated and 0 and 1 type data were collected. The items used for evaluation refect the user's request, such as "the back page image of the original was noticed", "color uniformity" or "unclear outlines". Each item was analyzed separately. One (1) was used as a response for any problem noticed, The analysis showed that the significant effects in each copy machine was different. As a conclusion, it is possible to find a suitable copy machine by setting up the evaluation items that reflect the user's objectives for experiment.

This paper reports a study to optimize a process of fabricating conductive thin films using the Spray Pyrolysis Deposition Method. We are conducting the research on the multi-layer elements in our product. Two types of signal factors were studied. One type is to assess functionality and the other to assess manufacturability. A unique compounded noise factor was used, which resulted in a good reproducibility of conclusions. A gain of 14 decibels on SN ratio was accomplished. Also it became possible to vary sensitivity by 18 decibels without affecting S/N ratio.

Partial felting process is a special processing method in which the felting part of cloth intermingles with non-felting part. The felting process is carried out after printing the felt-resist paste on wool cloths. The thermo-sensitive polymer used in the felt-resist paste can be easily washed out after completion of the process.

In this study, an attempt was made to optimize the thermo-sensitive polymer and textile printing paste formulation for the development of a low cost partial felting process. The dyeing property and felt-resist property were also studied. After optimization, the paste formula was successfully developed resulting in one third cost reduction compared with the current one.

Much attention has been focused on Mahalanobis Distance for methods of treating multi-dimensional information system. The method is called a Mahalanobis-Taguchi-System(MTS). MTS method was proposed by Dr.Taguchi and the method was used for pattern recognition, diagnosis, forecasting and soon,. Some researches have been reported.

In this paper, we propose a overall evaluation method using MTS for education in the university. The educational subjects in the current curriculum are evaluated using the MTS method. The students abilities for each educational subjects of the current curriculum are evaluated using MTS. The problems of the current curriculum are shown and it is confirmed that this proposed method gives a good evaluation tool.

Data capacity is the most important issue to develop recording media such as optical memory. There are several ways to increase data capacity of optical memory. One of them is the optimization of the waveform recording process called Write-Strategy. Data marks are written on the optical media by the light intensity modulation method. The waveform of laser intensity recording was optimized using Quality Engineering approach. The study showed the power of Quality Engineering for the development of the digital data recording process.
