It is said that there is few hotels in Japan who use the facility of fire-alarming system. The reason of that are too many errors called the error of first-kind, i.e. giving an alarm where there is no fire. How to design a good multi-variate sensing system is introduced in this article by using Mahalanobis Distance and Signal-to-Noise Ratio. The method would be one of the most important software technologies in future. The methods stated here are also related with pattern-recognition discussed next.

Recently, the demands for flat panel displays such as Liquid Crystal Displays, Electroluminescence and Vacuum Fluorescent Displays are increasing for the display of personal computers and word - processors. One of the major constituent parts of flat panel display is the transparent conductive layer. The rigid requirement for the transmittance and conductance of the transparent conductive layer complicated the production condition. In order to simplify the production process and improve the productivity, attempts were made to optimize the production condition through the quality engineering approach. Our attempts have succeeded in minimizing the complexities of the production process and producing the transparent conductive layers with a quality which is good enough for the intended applications.

In the molding process for hard polyvinyl chloride, heat stabilizer must be used in order to prevent the decomposition of polymer by heat. For this purpose, the stabilizer containing lead has been used because of its excellent heat stability and low cost. Since the city water quality standard was revised,it was necessory to develop a new heat stabilizer to substitute the one containing lead. This paper reports the development of a new stabilizer and the optimization of an injection molding process through parameter design.

In the manufacturing of chemical products, the determination of synthesis reaction conditions greatly affects quality and cost. ln this paper, the Dynamic Operating Window method was applied to determine the synthesis reaction conditions for the reduction of the fixed production cost and the reaction time of the following reaction : TH3+3FX → TF3+3HX↑ As a result, the reaction time was successfully halved and the reaction conditions stabilized.
