    If a defective product is not skipped to customers, the product does not affect customers. Therefore the percent defectives is not a good quality measure. Many manufactures now accept to use the process capability Cp defined by the following measure

    Cp=Tolerance/(6×σ)

    However, process capability index Cp is not monetary evalution, The management prefers to use monetary measure. Quality loss is defined by the following monetary measure

    L=(A/9)×(1/Cp2)

    Where A is the loss per defective product. This paper discuss the monetary measure for management.

    This is a parameter design study on the formulation of cool-feeling plasters. Plasters have been used for a long time as anti-inflammatory and analgestic agents as well as bruise and sprain treatments in orthopedics. The quality of plasters must be evaluated from the pharmacological viewpoints such as antiinflammatory and analgestic functoins. However, cool-feeling is considered to be an important factor to help achieving the pharmacological effects. One of the objectives in this study was to find the relationship between plaster formulation and cool-feeling. Another objective was to compare the difference between the results form consumer feedback and the test results from specialy trainde panelists provided by the manufacturer. Some methods were suggested to narrow down the difference. To quality cooling-feeling, skin surface temperature and skin penetration of cooling agent in the plaster were measured. The study showed cooling agent α contributed the most,and time passage had significant effects. Little relationship between cool-feeling and physical measurements such as skin temperature and cooling agent penetration was observed. Such findings were considered to be useful for the future development of plasters.

    Quality Engineering Methods are being proposed to become the standards of ISO. It is stated in the proposal that the core of standardization is to evaluate the function of a product. In this study, the concept of evaluating product quality based on its function was applied to compare the quality of film capacitors supplied by several manufacturers, as opposed to using traditional reliability approaches.

    In order to optimize the conditions of machining a new material the input and output energy were measured to evaluate the functionality of the machining process. An Lis orthogonal array was used in the experiment. As a result, a stable condition was selected. The application of the conclusions to other types of machinery brought significant productivity improvements.

    In this report, the feasibility of applying Mahalanobis Taguchi System to diagnose corporate performance was studied. The performance of a company is usually evaluated based on a high level professional skill in using factors such as capital, debt, productivity, wage or the investment in equipment, etc. To achieve this purpose, Mahalanobis Taguchi System might be used for its powerful function in pattern recognition or overall judgment. Furthermore, a study was made for the possibility of forecasting the future performance.

    In this study. Mahalanobis Taguchi System was used to forecast the future health conditions based on the results of existing medical examinations. For the construction of Mahalanobis Space and calculation of Mahalanobis Distance, the records of health examination in the past three years were used. In this analysis, data was divided into two groups : normal group and non-healthy group. The data collected from the normal group was used to construct a Mahalanobis Space. When a cut-off value of 2.0 was used, 98.1% of the healthy people fell below the threshold, and 91.9% of non-healthy people fell above the cut-off value. In order to forecast the future health conditions, the base space was constructed from the results of the people who were judged as healthy this year. Then Mahalanobis Distances were calculated for the people from the two categories : the people who were diagnosed as healthy and non-healthy last year. Using 1.5 as the cut-off value, 90% of the people who were judged as healthy last year were forecasted as healthy this year. However, 15% of the people who were judged as non-healthy last year were forecasted as healthy this year. These results indicate that Mahalanobis Taguchi System may be used to forecast the health condition for the coming year.
