The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of removing alubumen of seed on rooting vigour, which is indicated with number, longest length and dry weight of emerged roots in this report. The young seedlings used for the experiment were 1.5th and 2nd leaf stage seedlings which were different in the alubumen content. The results obtained were as follows ; (1) Rooting of the 1,5th leaf stage seedlings decreased when the alubumen was removed. (2) Rooting of the 1,5th leaf stage seedlings was significantly more vigorous than of the 2nd leaf stage seedlings.

This experiment was carried out to observe the growth of young seedling of rice plants in different seeding density, using a rice plant variety called Nomin No. 21. The Plots of seeding density were 100,200 and 300g per nursery bed, which was the wooden box of 60 × 30cm width and 3cm depth, filled with paddy soil. No fertilizers were apllied. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; (1) Under the sparse density, the seedlings increased in plant height, number of leaves and number of roots, but the leaf area index decreased. (2) There were not the significant effects of the seeding density on length of leaf-sheath and leaf-blade of the 1st leaf. (3) The coefficient of variation of plant height and length of 2nd leaf-blad increased at the denser seed-plot. (4) Alubumen of seeds disappeard at the 1.8th or 2nd leaf stage. It took 18 days after sowing on the plot of seeding density of 100g per nursery bed. On the plots of 200g and 300g, it took 22 days.

Using the data of determining test of recommended variety of rice, the author tried to classify the plain part of baisin area in Yamagata prefecture into several groups by the application of the principal component analysis. Result of this investigation is following 1. The complex characteristics of two rice varieties in this investigation can be shown by three principal components as indices of complex characteristics. 2. The first index is concerned with whether type of the each place is a tiller-number type or a panicle-weight type. The second index is concerned with the yield on the each place and the third index, with plant height. 3. By the first index and the third index, each place could be classified clearly into the SHONAI and NATRIKU region, respectively.

The process of formation of the abnormal bundles caused by 2,4-D was investigated, and obtained following results : 1. The intrafascicular cambium (IC) had high activity and larger meristematic region around phloem than normal ones (Photo. No. 2,No. 3) 2. Metaxylem (MX) was differentiated along the activated IC, therefore the MX located evcn in the upper position of metaphloem (MP). 3. The differentiation of protoxylem (PP) derived from IC was stimulated (Photo. No. 2) or limited (Photo. No. 4), and protoxylem lacuna developed irregular snapes. 4. MP was differentiated from the IC surrounding the phloem, and sieve tubes in the MP arranged centripetally. These results suggested that the intrafascicular cambium played the important roles on the process of formation of the abnormal bundles.

The study was carried out to clarify the effect of several growth regulators (TIBA, TCA, IAA and GA) on the growth of potato stolons, and the following results were obtained : 1) Stolon showed a tendency to be turned into leafy stolon with TIBA, and to be maintained stoloniferous growth with IAA. 2) By means of bioassays of diffusible auxins (diffused by ethyl-ether), the stoloniferous stolon showed a higher activity at Rf value 0.4-0.5 (IAA) than the leafy one.

The life history of a hybrid corn, Tomorokoshi Ko No. 7,can be divided into eight reasonable periods in relation to some important transitional stages in the physiological and morphological development of the plant. These periods are as follows ; (I) Pre-emergence. (II) Early vegetative growth from emergence to knee high in a plant height. (III) Mid vegetative growth from knee high to differentiation of the spikelet of tassel. (IV) The begining of rapid vegetative growth and tassel development. (V) The rapid vegetative growth and ear development. (VI) Grain formation from fertilization to milky stage. (VII) Rapid starch accumulation in grains. (VIII) Maturation and drying of grains.

The heat-unit accumulations required for each leaf unfolding of a hybrid corn, Tomorokoshi Ko No. 7,were calculated by using the degrees of various ranges of a daily mean temperature. The fitness of the temperature ranges for leaf unfolding were evaluated by the coefficients of variation for heat-unit accumulations among leaves. The most qualified temperature range, designated as the effective degree range, that had the least coefficient of variation was from 10°C to 27°C and the average of the heat-unit accumulation required for each leaf unfolding in the effective degree range was 36.9°C. The number of heat-units required for the unfolding of a leaf in the effective degrees remained relatively constant for leaves on different nodes, while calendar days varied widely.
