Small axial fan which diameter is less than 100mm has been used widely as cooling device. Experimental studies have been carried out in order to improve performance and reduce noise of small axial flow fan. In this report, small axial flow fan with diameter of 85mm popularly used at a personal computer or a workstation was chosen, influence of design parameters of frame such as clearance of blade tip, radius of outlet corner and angle of spoke on aerodynamic performance and noise were investigated. We found that increase clearance of blade tip causes decrease of discrete tone noise and increase of broad noise. As for the most suitable design for the fan efficiency, we found that the treatment of outlet corner roundness and spoke skew toward the counter direction of rotation is effective.
