The movement estimation has been widely used for many HDTV signal prosessing areas such as bandwidth reduction, field rate conversion, and so on. But in most of the conventional movement estimation algorithms, the measuring range of motion vector is limited about 6 pixels per frame. If the movement is large it is difficult to estimate motion vector accurately, so the performance degrades heavily. This paper describes a movement estimation algorithm using the hierarchical combination of the pyramidal pel recursive algorithm and simple block matching algorithm. The proposed algorithm shows good performance especially for large movement image.

In this paper, we describe a new motion estimation algorithm in which interframe/intraframe correlation of motion vectors is used to reduce the number of candidate vectors. This algorithm requires a smaller number of operations per block than the conventional methods. And the amount of transmitted data can be reduced by using this algorithm. The proposed motion estimation algorithm is used for field rate doubling.

Linear and nonlinear filters for interlaced-to-progressive conversion are discussed and their performance is evaluated. Both motion compensated and non-compensated methods are examined in terms of complexity and resulting image quality. In this paper, we propose a modified nonlinear filter. Computer simulation shows that it is more effective in the sense of the quality of the resulting images.

The digital TV transmission requires reliable TV synchronization at the receiver to get the TV signals. This paper presents a scheme for the synchronization of digital TV transmission systems. Because of the coherence of line synchronous codewords, the data delay technics can be used to recover the line, frame and U/V synchronizations. This method is proved effective by our experiments. The synchronization is very important in digital TV transmission. In this paper, we presetn the following scheme, using the synchronous method of MAC systems for reference.
