The present work is concerned with the effect of heat treatment on the temperature dependency of Specific Viscosity of high polymer solutions.
When the high polymer solutions are treated at certain suitable temperatures, their physical properties become to conform with those expected from the theory of rubber elasticity.
The efficient temperatures of heat treatment in every sort of high polymer solution are different from each other. For example, it is about 80°C for Polystyrene-CCl
4 solution, while below 20°C for rubber-CCl
4 solution.
When the solution is heated to such a temperature and continually stived up, the value of Specific Uiscosity decreases gradually and finally acquires a nearly constant value. In this final state the solution behaves in harmony with the theory.
In order to obtain the constant values of Specific Viscosities of high polymer solutions, it is therefore necessary that they should be treated at appropriate temperatures for a sufficiently long time.
