    In order to measure biaxial stresses by an electrodeposited copper foil with a microcircular hole both occurrence rate of slip bands at the periphery of microcircular holes in a copper foil and the number of cycles of grown grain occurrence in copper foil itself are used. However, it is necessary to stop the test frequently to seek the latter. In this report, in order to overcome this weakness, the posssibility of the use of grown grain density, which can be obtained to optional number of cycles, is examined. Namely, using three kinds of material adhered copper foil, the stress component which controlls the grown grain density in copper foil is examined under the combination of plane bending and cyclic torsion and the basic equations connecting the grown grain density, the stress amplitude and number of cycles are presented.

    In order to measure cyclic biaxial stresses by an electrodeposited copper foil with microcircular holes, both occurrence rate of slip bands at the periphery of microcircular holes and the grown grain occurrence rate in copper foil itself have been used. However, this method needs a great many microcircular holes to obtain high accuracy. So, in this report the different method from that ever used is examined. Namely, as the biaxial stress ratio affects the stress distribution of the periphery of circular hole in a plate, it is also expected that the distributed shape of grown grains at the periphery of circular hole in a copper foil is different with biaxial stress ratio. From this viewpoint, the length of the circumferential direction and radial direction of grown grains appeared are measured under various biaxial stresses, and the basic equations are proposed to obtain principal stress.

    The condition of grain growth or slip line occurrence at the periphery of microcircular holes in a copper foil is fundamental to biaxial stress measurement by an electrodeposited copper foil with a microcircular hole, and that condition depends on the difference of the Poisson's ratio between the element where stress measured and a copper foil attached to it. In this report, basic equations of biaxial stress measurement, which takes into account of the difference of Poisson's ratio, are presented and the propriety of the equations is examined by plane bending and bending-torsion tests using materials with various Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus.

    On three types of tufftrided spheroidal and flaky graphite cast irons, the fatigue limit diagrams which are used as the basis when estimating the fatigue strength of components were constructed. The major results are shown in below.
    (1) In the case of smooth specimen of spheroidal graphite cast irons FCD700 and FCD500, the effect of tufftriding could not be correctly estimated because it was influenced in the casting defects. On the other hand, in the case of notched specimen, there was no example of fracture induced by the casting defects, then the improvement of fatigue limit could be correctly estimated.
    In this case, the fatigue limit of FCD700 was considerably improved with 20%, and that of FCD500 was remarkably improved with 34%. It is considered that the notch reduced the probability with the casting defect which exists in the fracture domain and induced the proper effect of tufftriding.
    (2) The fatigue limits of tufftrided FCD700 and FCD500 were accurately predicted on basis of 3-parameters, that is to say, the compressive residual stress, Vickers hardness of subsurface pearlitic phase and maximum graphite diameter.
    (3) In the case of flaky graphite cast iron FC230, the fatigue limits were improved with 17% on smooth specimen, and 14% on notched specimen respectively. The depth of compressive residual stress distribution induced by tufftriding was shallow compared with the size of flaky graphite on both specimen. So there was no great difference on the improvement of fatigue limit between the two types of specimen.
    (4) The fatigue limit of tufftrided FC230 was accurately estimated from the fatigue limit diagram which was added the compressive residual stress at the distance of flaky graphite length (100μm) from notch root as mean stress to the fatigue limit diagram of non-tufftrided FC230.

    The stress measurement method using an electrodeposited copper foil with microcircular holes has been developed to measure the cyclic biaxial stress. However, as shearing stress amplitude controls the phenomenon of grown grain occurrence, which is the principle of this method, the static mean stress acting on the elements cannot be measured only using this phenomenon. So the propagation of fatigue cracks from the periphery of microcircular holes are examined to measure mean stress. In this report, temperature and frequency, which affect the crack propagation mainly, are kept constant. And the effect of mean stress on fatigue crack propagation is investigated. Namely, using copper foil and nickel foil, fatigue crack lengths are measured under various combinations of stress amplitude and mean stress, and the basic equations connecting the crack propagation rate, stress amplitude, and mean stress are presented.

    In order to examine the effects of frequency and the wave form of cyclic stress on the strain sensitivity of biaxial stress measurement method using an electrodeposited copper foil with microcircular holes, pulsating tension tests are done to the stainless steel specimen glued the copper foil and recrystallized copper foil. The higher the frequency becomes, the lower the strain sensitivity becomes.And in the case of sine wave, the relationship between stress amplitude σph0.5 corresponding to slip occurrence rate of 50% at the periphery of micro circular holes and the mean strain rate 4nσph0.5/Eper one forth cycle, where n is the frequency expressed by Hertz and K is Young's modulus of the material stress measured, is expressed as σph0.5=.4109 (4nσph0.5/E) +B. So, σph0.5 to optional frequency can be estimated by this equation. Also, the strain sensitivity is affected by wave form and it becomes highest in the case of square wave and becomes lower in ramp wave than sine wave. If the copper foil is recrystallized, the strain sensitivity increases but the effect of the difference of wave form decreases.

    This study examines the effect of hybrid surface modification by vacuum carburizing and fine particle peening on fatigue strength behaviors of SCM 415 material. We used quenched vacuum carburized and hybrid, vacuum carburized and fine particle peened, specimen made of SCM 415 and measured their hardness distribution, mechanical properties, fatigue strength and crack propagation. In terms of the fatigue behaviors, we investigated the relationship between the crack propagation rate da/dN and stress intensity factor range △K, da/dN and effective stress intensity factor range △Keff, as well as the fatigue crack initiation life Ni and crack failure life Nf of specimens. The results show specimens with hybird surface modification are effective in the prevention of fatigue crack initiation and fatigue crack propagation.

    After the Russo-Japanese War, Japan acquired the leasehold of the “Kanto Region”, which encouraged the process of fishery activities. This research discusses the fishery characteristics and the transformation of fishery structure in the Kanto Region focusing on the dragnet fishery in the 1920s –1930s. The research confirms the historical facts in the following three aspects: 1) the transformation of fishery structure in regulation and policy, number of households and persons, fishing-boat, amount and species of fish catch; 2) the transformation of the regulation and policy from promotion to restrict about the dragnet fishery; 3) expanded production of the dragnet fishery and promotion of the high horsepower management.

    This study examines the friction welding behaviors of SiC particles (20 vol.%) AC 8 A and Al2O3 particles (15 vol.%) A 6061 composite aluminum alloys. In this study friction welding tests were carried out for similar and dissimilar materials, and we verified the validity of the application of friction welding by examining the welding condition, structure hardness distribution, tensile strength and carrying out an ultimate analysis of the welded interface.

    Although the copper electroplating method of stress analysis can only detect the shearing stress amplitude, microcircular holes made in electrodeposited copper foil enable separation and measurement of the first and second princical stresses with biaxial stress conditions of a negative biaxial stress ratio. In this paper, developing the above idea, a method of detecting both principal stresses at the stress-concentrated location with a positive biaxial stress ratio is presented. The accuracy of this method is ascertained by examining the stress state near the hole in a plate under uniaxial tension and that at the bottom of a chircular groove in a shaft under bending.

    This study focuses on the formation factors and development process of the fisheries industry in the “Kanto Region” of China in early 20th Century. The relevant historical data shows the reasons of the formation and development of the fisheries industry includes: 1)the establishment and operation of the system and the policy; 2)the establishment and activities of the Fishery Unions in the Kanto Region; 3)the opening of the fish market and the operation of Manchuria Fisheries; 4)the dependence of shikomi system.

    The object of this study was to examine the mechanical behaviors of prestressed concrete slabs from their cracking to final stage. The effects of the loading position, the level of prestressing and the width/span ratio of slab specimens were investigated on the cracking and failure load, failure pattern and deflections. The specimens were simply supported along two opposite edges. A uniformly distributed load having an 8×8cm loading area was applied on the center of a specimen (Case C) or on a position apart from the center (Case E).
    Flexural failure occured in the Case C, while both flexural and punching shear failures were observed in the Case E. Punching failure occured especially in the wide specimens subjected to small longitudinal but no transverse prestressing. Prestressing in the transverse direction was found to improve the flexural rigidity and to change the cracking and failure pattern from a shear to a flexure type. However, the prestressing did not seem to affect the cracking load of specimens. After cracking, the central deflection of the specimens with transverse prestressing was much larger than that of those specimens without prestressing. The ultimate strength in flexure could be conservatively estimated by “Yield-Line Theory”, while that in punching shear could be safely predicted by Hawkins' equation.

    This paper examines Japan-South Korea trade agreements in 1949 and 1950 as the beginning of political and economic relations between Japan and South Korea in the postwar period.
    After losing in World War II, one of the most difficult challenges that Japanese diplomacy had to confront was the need to revise a vision of postwar Japan toward economic reconstruction. Japan had destroyed a friendly political and economic relationship with Northeast Asian countries because of its past colonial rule and military invasion. However, Japan needed to import a large amount of foodstuffs and raw materials, and export industrial goods as an important source of foreign exchange for recovering from the ruins of the war. Thus, Japanese elites began to regard it as natural that Japan would once again dominate trade with neighboring Asian countries.
    This vision of Japanese elites was first realized as a part of the Cold War strategies of the United States. Washington believed that Japan should rebuild political and economic relations with the capitalist countries in Northeast Asia in order to strengthen its economy against communist influences. Toward that end, GHQ/SCAP concluded a trade agreement between Japan and South Korea in 1949, creating an import market for foodstuffs and raw materials for Japan, and establishing a market for Japanese exports.
    As part of this strengthening push, Japanese elites took over American businesses. Because the agreement that the United States had concluded in 1949 was imperfect for them, the Japanese government tried to promote trading interests of the agreement in 1949, and to actualize the vision of Japanese elites revised. As a result, a new trade agreement signed by Japan and South Korea in 1950 facilitated a restored Japanese economic dominance over South Korea.
    The South Korean government, however, was in direct opposition to the postwar Japan that Japanese elites had created and the United States government had recognized, because both trade agreements ignored Korean trade interests. Although Koreans needed the trade with Japan, it was very important for them to be freed from Japan's colonial rule and to depart from trade systems of the past.
    The Korean War broke out immediately after the conclusion of the agreement in 1950. Japanese elites welcomed special procurements for the war, and Japanese exports to Korea increased considerably. This, however, was just the type of situation that the South Korean government was anxious to avoid. At the closing of the war's formal hostilities, South Korea's major trading partner shifted from Japan to the United States. Thus the Japanese people lost their first chance for normalizing relations with South Korea in postwar Northeast Asia.
