Variable step size (VSS) maximum power trackers (MPPTs) are widely used in photovoltaic (PV) systems to extract the peak array power which depends on the atmospheric conditions. One essential factor which judge system performance is the scaling factor (M). This paper introduces a new small signal model to (VSS-INR-MPPT). Using this model, system characteristics equation has been deduced. The effect of the scaling factor has been analyzed using linear control theory (root-locus) technique. The simulation and experimental results validate the proposed stability study for this nonlinear system.
