In this paper, we report the performances of optimization methods including the particle swarm optimization (PSO) when designing a transmission line (TL) on the normal FR4 substrate covering the frequency range of 24.05 – 24.25 GHz.As a result, only the PSO can find the global optimal structure of a TL in a few steps although the well-known optimization methods are trapped in a local optimum of the insertion-loss function.The optimized structure is applied for the TL design and the EM simulated quality factor of the TL achieves more than 38 at the frequency range of 24.05 – 24.25 GHz.
