This study qualitatively analyzed the specific teaching strategies used by an experienced parent-child gymnastics class instructor to transform “closed” into “open” parent-child relationships. The aim was to elucidate the structure of the instructor's practical knowledge pertaining to specific teaching strategies aimed at transforming parent-child relationships.
As a result, the parents expanded their perspective beyond their own children by engaging in parent-focused activities and acting out classroom activities. These activities involved building a mutually subjective parent-child relationship through the establishment of parent-child gymnastics class activities that allowed parents and children to participate “together.” Furthermore, the participants expressed the desire to foster an “open parent-child relationship” through these activities as well as engage in communal parenting.
