訂正日: 2010/07/16 訂正理由: - 訂正箇所: 論文抄録訂正内容: Wrong : Studies on the attitude toward community may be classified in terms of their methodology into two approaches. One is deductive, and the other is inductive. However, both of them suffer serious defects.
The first purpose of this paper was to construct a reliable and valid attitude scale toward community, both as a theoretical model and as a tool of measurement. The second purpose was to uncover associations between the attitude toward community and demographic and psychological variables. Two surveys corresponding the two purposes were carried out.
In Survey I 45 selected items were used. The subjects were 764 residents living in Nagoya, Osaka, and Hyogo. The survey took place from November 1st to 20th, 1976.
The group principal axis method and the principal factor solution method were employed as the means of analysis. The results indicated that the attitude toward community as measured by the 45 items has a structure involving two factors (Table 1). The first factor was named Active-Passive, and the second Cooperation oriented-Individual oriented. The four quadrants defined by the two factors set orthogonal to each other gave four types of attitude toward community. Each type was designated as A-C, P-C, P-I, and A-I (Fig. 2). Five items representing each factor were obtained through the item analysis proposed by Mizuno. Each item was rated on a 5-point scale from “strongly approve” (5 point) to “strongly disapprove” (1 point). Subjects were classified into a single type of attitude by two total scores of five items each.
In Survey II the ten attitude scale items toward community obtained in Survey I, 12 demographic variables and ten psychological variables were used. The subjects were 1017 residents in Osaka and Hyogo. It lasted from January 15th to February 28th, 1977.
Hayashi's Quantification Theory II was employed as the means of analysis. With the four types of attitude toward community as an external criterion, number of friendly neighbours, liking for the community, political party voted for at the last election of the House of Representatives, desired life style, age, vocation, and length of living at the present residence were found to be important variables discriminating between the Cooperation-oriented and the Individual-oriented. Features of each type of attitude toward community emerging from these results along with those of the second and third solutions are summarized in Table 4.
It was concluded that the attitude scale toward community constructed in this research is highly reliable and valid.
