With the increase use of bedside radiography, hospitals have been suffering from various problems centered around it use, especially a limited number of cassettes storage boxes in the mobile X-ray units. In an effort to solve this problem, we have developed a single-size film changer-compact, lightweight and easy to operate-that can be mounted on mobile X-ray equipment for bedside radiography. The film changer uses the cassette with roll closing mechanism. To allow unexposed film to be inserted into the cassette more effectively, the film changer is so designed that the film is lifted from the downward positioned film supply magazine and is inserted forcibly into the cassette. This design is based upon the cassette's roll closing mechanism that hangs film. No rollers are employed at all. This prevents the film from being inserted obliquely into the cassette, as well as solves other problems such as film becoming dirty and a build up of static electricity.Just as the film transfer is in the vertical position, the film feeder is also is in the vertical position. Therefore, film removal is based on the horizontal and vertical movement of the film pickup. This system allows film to be removed very smoothly from the magazine because there is a suitable amount of air between the filmlayers.
