A method was developed for performing dynamic contrast-enhanced T_1-weighted and R_2^* studies simultaneously to evaluate the regional hemodynamics of brain tumors. The dual dynamic contrast-enhanced images were obtained using a dual gradient echo(FFE)sequence with the keyhole technique to improve temporal resolution during a rapid bolus injection of Gd-DTPA. The dynamic T_1-weighted images were obtained from the first echo; moreover, dynamic ΔR_2^* images were calculated from the first and second echo images. The dynamic T_1-weighted study provided us with information about characteristic enhancement patterns(vascularity and permeability)of the brain tumors, and the dynamic R_2^* study provided a map of the blood pool of the brain.
