Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most of the Japanese classes in 2020 were held online for the exchange students of Ritsumeikan University. In advanced career Japanese classes, I was responsible for conducting synchronous online classes using Zoom and other online tools such as Microsoft OneNote and Word Online etc. However, the survey of my students suggested that online learning can cause lack of motivation and communication between students. On the other hand, benefits of online classes also became clear as the course progressed. Hence, I examined these problems and benefits to improve the future online classes.
