The effect of ditertiary phosphine on the cotrimerization of butadiene and styrene was studied. In the reaction of butadiene and styrene with nickel chloride-triethylaluminum-ditertiary phosphine catalyst system yielded 1-phenyl-1, 4, 8- and 1-phenyl-1, 4, 9-decatriene. 4-Vinyl-cyclohexene, 1, 5-cyclooctadiene, 1, 5, 9-cyclododecatriene and 4-phenylcyclohexene were also produced. The catalyst system, NiCl₂ : AlE_t3 : Ph₂PCH₂CH₂PPh₂=1 : 10 : 0.5, gave the best result.
