Partial esters of lauryl alcohol ethylene glycol mixtures were analyzed as model compounds to study the equilibrium composition of partial esters of polyol mixtures. It was proved that the equilibrium constant of relative esterifying abilities between hydroxyl groups of ethylene glycol and lauryl alcohol had a definite value, and that the equilibrium compositions were followed by oriented statistical distribution. After discussions on the relative esterifiability value, a calculating method of equilibrium constant from relative esterifiability value, and a general calculating method of composition of partial esters of complex polyol mixtures were proposed.
The effect of ditertiary phosphine on the cotrimerization of butadiene and styrene was studied. In the reaction of butadiene and styrene with nickel chloride-triethylaluminum-ditertiary phosphine catalyst system yielded 1-phenyl-1, 4, 8- and 1-phenyl-1, 4, 9-decatriene. 4-Vinyl-cyclohexene, 1, 5-cyclooctadiene, 1, 5, 9-cyclododecatriene and 4-phenylcyclohexene were also produced. The catalyst system, NiCl2 : AlEt3 : Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2=1 : 10 : 0.5, gave the best result.
