Micro-rods have to be prepared for micro electrical discharge machining (EDM) and micro electrochemical machining (ECM) to be used as tool electrodes. In most cases, they are fabricated by EDM. On the other hand, the electrostatic induction feeding method developed by the authors was used to machine micro holes by ECM in the past. Hence, the authors tried to fabricate micro rods using this ECM method. The influence of the voltage amplitude on machining stainless steel rod was investigated. The current flowing through the side gap affected the machined shape of the rod. In some cases, the machining failed unexpectedly due to pitting corrosion because stainless steel was machined with sodium chloride electrolyte.
