Eosinophilia is seen in various disorders, such as allergic diseases, parasitic infestation, Loeffler's syndrome, certain diseases of the hemopoietic system and some other diseases.
We experienced a patient with extreme eosinophilia. Although family survey showed slight eosinophilia, it was insufficient to decide it as a familial anomaly. Under the diagnosis of idiopathic eosinophilia, a patient was treated with corticosteroid and revealed transient improvement, but eosinophilia again aggravated after the suspension of corticosteroid. With a reoperation of ileocoecal region for ileus symptom, eosinophilia was gradually improved and eosinophilic count maintained lower level. The histology of resected intestine showed marked eosinophile and macrophage infiltration.
This case was considered to be intestinal allergic infiltration and the etiology of the eosinophilia was discussed.
