EFFECT OF RIBOFLAVIN, FLAVIN ADENINE MONONUCLEOTIDE OR FLAVIN ADENINE DINUCLEOTIDE UPON RIBOFLAVIN LEVELS OF BLOOD AND SALIVARY Na/K RATION IN CHILDREN WITH NUTRITIONAL DYSTROPHY Twenty nine boys with nutritional dystrophy were divided into 4 groups, and 1 mg of riboflavin, FMN or FAD was given subcutaneously for 4-5 successive days. The amounts of free and esterified riboflavin were measured fluorometrically prior to, and 4 days after the administration of the vitamin, and 10 days after the last injection of the vitamin. The rise of the concentration of both free and esterified riboflavin in blood was highest in FAD-group of these 4. Temporary decrease in the salivary Na/K ratio was found in free riboflavin-group and FMN-group, but not in FAD-group. This finding suggests that hyperactivity of the adrenal cortex might be required for the formation of FAD from free riboflavin or FMN.
