The oxidation of vitamin A acetate in benzene solution was very quick and proportional to peroxide number when irradiated methyl linoleate was introduced to the solution. Antioxidants to the solution even in dilute concentration prevented the oxidation of vitamin A as effectively as the replacement of air from the sample by carbon dioxide did. This procedure showed the same pattern of the oxidation of vitamin A catalysed by peroxide and will be conveniently used for screening new antioxidants for vitamin A.
