The TBA-value (thiobarbituric acid value) was estimated with the liver of riboflavin-deficient rat, and the influence of the administration of riboflavin on the TBA-value was studied. The mean of the TBA-values was calculated as follows : riboflavin-deficient rat, 0.248-0.320 [D(x)=0.036], riboflavin-administered rat (10μg per day for a rat) 0.135-0.167 [D(x)=0.048], riboflavin-administered rat (100μg per day for a rat) 0.137-0.151 [D(x)=0.007], and riboflavin-administered rat (1000μg per day for a rat) 0.174-0.190 [D(x)=0.008]. Assuming that the TBA-value indicates the amount of the fatty acid peroxide or aldehyde of the sample, these results could be interpreted as that riboflavin deficiency causes the accumulation of these substances in the liver and the administration of 1000 μg of riboflavin per day for a rat as well, and that 10-100μg per day for a rat decreases such substances, which could be attributed to the enzymatic and/or non-enzymatic action of riboflavin.
