A growth model to simulate the heading and maturing stages of paddy rice in IBARAKI prefecture is presented. Accumulated temperature is calculated in different cropping seasons, different amount of basal dressing and different soil types. And then, a model based on orthogonal polynomials with the accumulated temperature, is developed. This model allows us only 2 days deviation in the heading and maturing stages.
Next, a multiple regression model which predicts the yield components of rice, is presented. The development index (DVI: 0 gives transplanting, 1 gives panicle formation stage, 2 gives heading, 3 gives maturing) of every 5 days, is calculated based on a recommended variety KOSHIHIKARI which has been cultivated for 19 years. This model takes the average temperature during 5 days just before each DVI value is attained as the independent variable. The estimated values by this model coincide well with the observed values.

Database of research information in Fukuoka Agricultural Research Center was developed. The information can be retrieved by anyone through the public telephone circuit. A host computer in this system is NEC-PC 9801 RX4, with a 20 mega-bytes hard disk. Main software is Sysport-TOWN BBS (Ver.4). About 1000 items are stored now, and they are classified into 18 divisions. Each item consists of reseach summaries with a title, which is used for retrieving. Branch stations can send the regional trial data. Users can make inquiries to the agricultural experiment station for their technical problems. This system can be a center of information network on agricultural researches in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Fukuoka Agricultural Research Center Information System was established to retrieve the research data in Fukuoka prefecture through the public telephone circuit. Number of accesses is about 40 in a month recently, and the total accesses since March, 1989 to date (end of May, 1992) is about 2,400. The item, which users could upload and send messages, was frequently used. The items, which had updated data, were frequently accessed. There were some users who used this system at night. The survey to extension workers showed that one of the reasons of the reluctance to this system was that they did not know the method to operate it. We concluded that more and updated data must be included in this system, users could send messages and more instructions about this system were necessary for the frequent utilization. This system is expected to fill the role of the information center which includes much applicable research information in Fukuoka prefecture.

The structure of the directory file (SYS@DIR) on LANFILE was anaiyzed.
It was revealed that the file was composed of four areas and the detailed function of each area was clarified.
Therefore, LANFILE became able to be applied to an output format of several kinds of database systems and the compatibility among those data base systems has been realized.
An application using LANseries to utilize the census data was developed and the applicability of it was verified.
