The cecal enlargement of conventional rats administered with penicillin was suppressed even if not completely, by the oral administration with a spasmolysant for the smooth muscle. This is suggestive that an elevation of the cecal peristalsis in the antibiotics-treated animal may be one of the factors causing the enlargement.
