    The fatigue limit and crack growth behavior of slit specimens of epoxy base carbon composites were investigated. The fatigue limit was defined by maximum stress amplitude that the specimen endured 106 times stress repeating. Also, that was calculated by net stress at ligament. Carbon fiber directions were parallel and perpendicular to the load axis. The highest value of fatigue limit was obtained when all fiber directions were parallel to the load axis. However, crack grew along the fiber direction or load axis in the case of long slit. In the cases of two carbon directions that is, parallel and perpendicular to the load axis, the fatigue limits were evaluated from the result of the specimen that all carbon directions were parallel to the load axis. When measured value of fatigue limit was higher than the evaluated value, it was expected that the strain constraint occurred due to resistance of fiber in perpendicular to the load axis. When the measured value was lower, the peeling of fiber from epoxy was expected to be occurred. According to those results, it was expected that fatigue limit of smooth specimen of carbon composites with long fiber can be evaluated from the results of slit specimens

    Gaskets have been used widely in bolted flange connections in the various plants such as chemical, petroleum refining, petrochemical, power generation and so on. The prototype of gaskets had started to use in 19 century and gaskets have improved and developed for applying severe specifications conditions in a lot of industries. The role of gaskets is to prevent leakage of inner fluid from the interfaces of connections. Asbestos gaskets have been used for a long time, however, in 1980"asbestos have replaced to non-asbestos materials in the US and Europe because asbestos have affected the human health. In Japan, the new use of asbestos gaskets was completely prohibited in 2012. In the present article, the history of gaskets is described. Recently, from the environmental regulation, the quantitative measurement of a leakage has been necessary in the bolted flange connections. Thus, the higher sealing technology is needed for satisfying the severe conditions. An overview of the recent researches and trend for designing bolted flange connections are described.

    Low cycle fatigue strength of elbow piping subjected to in-plane cyclic bending displacement is extremely less than the best fit fatigue curve or the Manson's fatigue curve of the test material. Reduction of fracture ductility under multi-axial stress state significantly increases ductility exhaustion rate. This new finding means that effect of multi-axial stress degree should be included in the low cycle fatigue evaluation of elbow piping. From this view-point, the author developed a new cumulative damage rule considering multi-axial stress degree in order to explain the reason of fatigue strength reduction of elbow piping. Also he developed the advanced revised universal slope method to estimate actual fatigue life of elbow piping considering multi-axial stress degree. He believes that development of multi-axial fatigue evaluation method considering reduction of fracture ductility is useful not only for structural integrity of elbow piping but also that for other structures and components subjected to severe loading. Accordingly, he summarizes the logics and procedures of above-mentioned fatigue evaluation methods as a reference for future research on the multi-axial low cycle fatigue evaluation.

    The author has reported incidents of storage facilities for energy products at the EST-1 Committee of High Pressure Institute of Japan. The information was obtained from the Internet when the incidents occurred. In this paper, 71 incidents of storage facilities for energy products which occurred overseas in 2015 are introduced.
