From micro level of molecular biochemical reactions to macro level of ecosystem, control exists in everywhere of complex biological systems. Control engineering, which was established by mimicking biological systems, affect powerfully to the late development of overall bioengineering including not only basic bioresearches but also all bio-related industries. Recent rapid development of biological technology (BT) will further promote the active applications of control engineering. Meanwhile, control engineering will also be broken through by advanced bio-mimetic researches.

This report discusses the role and necessity of control engineering in computer and communications from a multimedia QoS (Quality of Service) point of view in information networks. We first describe the importance of research on multimedia QoS control. Next, we classify QoS into six levels based on the layered architecture of the Internet. Then, we regard QoS mapping as a key technology which unifies QoS control at individual layers. From this perspective, the report clarifies challenges for the future in research on QoS control.
