Saint-martyr worship of Kerala Muslims (Mappilas) has been developed in their specific historical circumstances. One characteristic of it is the
jarams (tombs) which commemorate martyrs killed in the battle against Portuguese, British or Hindu oppressors. Certain popular saints of
jarams were also involved in this history of the Mappila struggle against oppressors. I would like to discuss
jarams as cultural memorization of their historical experiences.
