JOURNAL FREE ACCESSApplicability of a fibrous filter method to the analysis of a gas-particle mixture was studied by the examination of filtering characteristics of iodine vapor by filters and of desorption of iodine therefrom. Adsorption of iodine vapor on metallic fume particles were analysed by applying three different methods such as: (1) diffusion tube method, (2) composite filter (silver mesh and filter paper) method, and (3) single filter method. Aerosol particles used for the experiments were mainly Zinc fumes of submicron size range. The results obtained by these methods were in good agreement, and the saturated amount of adsorbed iodine on fume particles was much increased beyond the mono-layer adsorption at the high concentration of iodine vapor.View full abstractDownload PDF (1071K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSIn an eight-year period of operating THOR and its affiliated facilities, since it went to critical on April 13, 1961, twenty incidents involving more or less serious radiation exposure or reactor hazards were recorded. Some of these incidents are described in this paper. The incidents described here were chosen to give a representative picture of what could be expected in the operation of a reactor facility of similar design and similar purpose under similar operating conditions. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA concentration factor of radioactive nuclides to the aquatic organisms is affected by various factors. This paper discusses the distribution and daily change of the concentration factors. The distribution of the concentration factor of individual organisms showed the logarithmic normal distribution or the Poisson distribution.
The authors attempted to explain the dynamics of concentration of radioactive substances in the organisms using a Markov process.
