In this low-angle case, the posterior teeth were allowed to elongate without placement of acrylic resin on the occlusal surfaces for enhanced bite-plane effect. This facilitated bite opening and helped produce favorable results. The upper and lower arches were bracketed almost at the same time, creating the bite-plane effect and moment of force from the lingual brackets that contributed to effective intrusion and lingual tipping of the upper and lower anterior teeth.

A 26-years-old female patient showing maxillary protrusion with crowding in mandibular arch treated by multi-lingual appliance. A well-interdigitation buccal occlusion and favorable facial change were observed.
This resulted from the anterior incisors uprighting and the control the vertical facial dimension.

In order to demonstrate the results of my study which are used two dimensional fine element analysis for cases where force was applied to the lingual and labial sides of the teeth. This study indicated that reactive flare-out movements of mandibular incisors were less with lingual fixed appliance than labial fixed appliance. (Shika Igaku: J. Osaka Odntol Soc, 2003. A case as follow:. A 27 years-old female patient showing anterior cross-bite.
Treatment was without extraction.
