I reported a specimen of Branta taken in Japan preserved in the British Museum of Natural History, London and identified it with some doubt to be Branta minima (cf. Tori, no. 26, pp. 2-3, 1928). Recently Mr. Robert A. Coombes of Tring Museum kindly examined this skin (Brit. Mus. Reg. 1894. 8. 12. 24) on my behalf and informed that it belongs to B. c. minima, obtained in Yokohama (coll. by H. Pryer). On the other hand B. c. leucopareia and B. c. asiatica were also recorded as occurring Japan. I, however, incline to think because the Japan-taken specimens of canadensis examined by me all have a white neck ring (4.5-19mm. in width) that subspecific identification of these specimens should be leucopareia. This race has individually variable wing length measurements (cf: Hellmayr & Conover, 1948) and asiatica should become a synonym of leucopareia.

In October 29, 1950, I collected off the mouth of the Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture at the Honshu side of the Inland Sea a male of Thalasseus bergii cristatus among a flock of Larus crassirostris.
This species of a Tern is not uncommonly found in the Bonins, Ryukyus and further south but is a rare straggler to the Japanese main islands.

A partial albino of the Chinese Bamboo Pheasant was captured at Ajiro near Atami in Shizuoka Perfecture.
It was one of several in a fiock and others were all normal plumaged. This is probably the first albino among Genus Bambusicola.

Surnia ulula is a summer resident in Shajitsu Mountain, Hangyong Nando so not only a straggler; Nucifraga c. macrorhynchos is a resident in Kongo Mts., Kangwon-Do; Dryocopus m. martius breeds Eiro Mts. and Hakuba Mts., in Kangwon-Do and the young was caught; Dryocopus richardsi were observed at many occasions from Yuten Temple to Shorin Temple in the Kongo Mts.; more than ten individuals of Lyrurus t. ussuriensis were observed at Maka Temple; several of, Grus virgo were observed at Koka I., Kyonggi-Do; at the sea-bird colony of Ran I. in Kangwon-Do Uria aalege inornata, Uria carbo, Cerorhinca monocerata, Synthliboramphus antiquus, Phalacrocorax p. pelagicus, Chaetura c. caudacuta were breeding, two speceis of Uria and Cerorhinca being their southernmost range in Korea; Lyrurus breeds commonly at Nojido, east side of the Taekto Mt.; a specimen of Columba j. janthina from Dagelet Is. constitutes the first record from Korea; the route from Wonsan to Seoul is a winter quarters for swans and cranes; southernmost records in Korea are Cuculus micropterus from Kyongi-Do, Tetrastes from Chunchong Pokdo, Athene noctua from Hwanghae-Do, Nyctea from Chungchong Nando and Platalea from Kyongsang Nando.

The author collected two specimens of each of the above rare Japanese waders at Tsujido, Kanagawa Prefecture, Honshu, during the autumn, 1949.
Brief descriptions of these specimens are given, with a summary of the species' known habits, distributions, migrations, and other recent records. He considers both species to be rare though regular migants in Japan rather than stragglers. These are the first specimen records of Calidris melanotos for Honshu.

A rare photograph of two weeks old Notornis of New Zealand is reproduced from a newspaper. Notornis is closely related to Porphyrio and New Zealand has P. poliocephalus melanotus which underwent the same type of evolution as Notornis, only not to that extreme degree. The origin of these two related birds is explained throguh the theory of double invasions. The author believes that species has a termination to its long continued life and Notornis is considered to be a waning species. Like ontogeny is a short repetition of phylogeny, a life of an adult individual is considered as a concise picture of a species it belongs and which one day must reach the end of its specific life.

In early March, 1951 for ten days, authors made journey to Oshima, Miyake and Hachijo in the Seven Islands of Izu.
Turdus a. aureus, Turdus. pallidus and Accipiter gentilis fujiyamae were collected on Miyake Island for the first time. Corvus c. orientalis, Larus h. pallidissimus, Sphenurus s. sieboldi and Milvus m. lineatus were observed on Miyake and Oshima Islands also for the first time.
