Mt. Kisokoma (2, 956m above the sea level) is the highest peak of the Chuo Alps, Central Honshu. The east side of it is classified into three zones, that is to say, mixed decidious forest at the altitudes of 900-1, 650m, coniferous forest and Betula Ermani zone at 1, 650-2, 600m, dwarf forest Pinus pumila to rocky zones at 2, 600-2, 956m.
Bird censuses were made in. alpine zone 2, 612-2, 910m at altitude, throughout the year from middle of February, 1977 to early in February, 1978. This study was conducted by the use of line transect method, along the climbing route.
14 species, 9 families of birds were recorded. I could not observe even one bird, during the days from late in November 1977 to middle of April 1978. Brown-eared Bulbul Hypsipetes amaurotis, Great tit Parus major and Brambling Fringilla montifringilla were observed crossing over the ridge above 2870m at altitude. As the passage of breeding season on the census line, Alpine Accentor Prunella collaris and Japanese Accentor Prunella rubida had been decreasing in number gradually.

From 1972 to 1975, for a full three years, the author raised the Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus for artificial incubation. One-year old Kentish Plovers hatched in an incubator and kept in captivity laid their eggs. One pair was formed and they had one brood and raised two youngs. From May 4, they began to build a nest, copulated from May 6 to May 12, laid an egg every other day, May 15, May 17, and May 19, hatched three youngs to June lb. Egg weight is each 8, 7.5 and 7.5g. The eggs are small and light as compared with the field case. It is 28 days from sitting on their eggs to hatching. It is 3 days too long compared with 25 days in the wild case.

The 307 birds of Japanese quails Coturnix coturnix japonica were captured for this study, in grasslands and pastures located 800 to 850 meters above sea level at the foot of Mount Fuji, from the middle of October through the end of November for five years under the permission of the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Capturing wild quails were performed by the both methods of ring-shaped traps and mist-nets. Male birds of the domestic strain were used for a decoy.
    1) Ratios of captured male and female quails are found different between two kind of the capturing methods, i. e., by the mist-nets used was nearly one to one ratio, while by the ring-shaped traps more male birds are significantly captured (64.2%) than female birds. The reason of the above different ratios of sexes in captured quails are considered by the different walk behaviour between sexes.
    2) Body weight at captured was significantly different between years, but no difference is found in the shank length. These phenomena might have resulted from the different food conditions of those regions during fall migratory season among the capturing years, although details are not clear.
    3) Mean values, standard errors and ranges of body weight, and lengths of external shank, internal shank, wing, tail and bill at captured are mentioned.
