Between 19611974 I made several small expeditions to the areas, which we called Oriental region from the zoogeographical point of view, and adjacent regions for the purpose of collecting and investigating birds.
These areas are Amami Is., Java Is., India, Formasa, Borneo, Malay Peninsula, the Philippines, and New Guinea.
Being helped by friends of mine and organizations in these areas, I could get skins of including 54 Families, 195 Genera, 377 Species, 437 Subspecies, and 818 in number.
Some of them were purchased or exchanged with ones that had been collected by ornithologists in these areas.
The list of the name of these birds is as follows, and the classification of ones is almost based on 'The check-list of birds of the world' by Peters.

Addition No.III of the present article contains some newly recorded localities of the Japanese Anserine Birds, mostly known from the years between 1973 and 1974. It includes two new additions of the Bar-headed Goose (Anser indicus) and the Javan Tree Duck or Lesser Whistling Teal (Dendrocygna javanica).

A female bird of Phalaropus fulicarius was obtained by a farmer on the farmland on Nov. 22, 1973. It is a new record from Niigata city, Niigata Prefecture. Measurements and stomach contents are reported in this paper.

The migration of red-necked phalarope Phalaropus lobatus, is normally wholly pelagic but coastal stragglers may occasionally appear. When especially a strong low pressure area in spring is travelling north-east along the coast, small number of migrants may occasionally move inshore to avoid the spring storm. Red-necked phalaropes are too light (See Table 1.) to remain water-borne in strong gales, and tend to be driven to leeward.
Like a temperate low pressure, typhoon can be disastrous. On Aug. 30 in 1970, seven phalaropes were found dead inland after the typhoon No. 12 as shown in Fig. 2, had passed. They probably, encountered the typhoon during flight at night were whipped off its gales and driven inland. Striking against a structure seemed to be the cause of their death.

A Red-breasted Flycatcher (_??_) visited Kanzaki Machi, Saga Pref. in this winter (from Feb. 25 to Mar. 31, 1974).
She stayed alone over one month in the grave-yard growing with trees of Jokoji (a Buddhist temple) in this town. This yard is edged with narrow drains on the north and the west side. She captured mainly midge-flies, Orthocladius akamushi (Chironomidae originally produced from the drains) on the grasses and among the trees.
She moved from sunrise to sunset everyday and frequently had a short rest and sometimes a long on the bush at the north-west edge of the yard, and every night roosted on one and the same twig of an old Kusu-tree, Cinnamonum Camphors Sieb. within the range of her daytime activity.
Her behaviours resembled those of the Daurian Redstart, Phaenicurus auroreus auroreus on the ground and those of the Sumatran Brown Flycatcher, Muscicapa latirostris latirostris among the branches of trees.

A Brown Hawk Owl Ninox scutulata japonica (_??_ad.) recorded at sea was reported with meteorological notes. The bird landing on a ship, was captured at 34°02′N, 148°53′E on the North Pacific, about 780 km east of Honshu, 21 May, 1973 (Fig. 1).
The race japonica is common summer visitor in Japan, passing Ryukyus on migration. The bird was probably deflected eastward by the strong gales of barometric minimum area travelling north-east along the coast of Japan as shown in Fig. 2.

The bones with skull of Brown Flycather Muscicapa latirostris, was found from drifts collected at 30°19′N, 131°17′E, off :Yakushima Is., 22 May, 1972.
The carcass was probably eaten by small crustaceans such as Amphipoda, and the eye was attached by a kind of barnacle.
