Fecal droppings of four Grey-headed Green Woodpeckers (three males and one female) which roosted in nest boxes set up on the Forest Observation Tower were collected and analyzed.
(1) Prey identified were 33 animal species and 6 plant species. Among them small ants
Lasius niger, seeds of poison ivy
Rhus spp., and spiders
Clubiona spp. were the three most important food items.
(2) Contents of droppings were very similar between two males whose droppings were collected in the same year. These males and third male, whose droppings were collected in the previous winter also showed similar food habits, though somewhat differed in vegetable matter taken.
(3) The food habits of males and female were also very similar.
(4) Further the contents of droppings collected in the roost and in the daytime were similar to each other.
