In Japan, the training program for CRC (Clinical Research Coordinator) was started in early 1998, and the number of persons who have taken the course for CRC training exceeds 5,000.
In 2003, The Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JSCPT) introduced the CRC certification program, and, at the time of this survey, they have certified 442 CRCs.
In this study, the background, employment environment, job satisfaction, and merit of obtainig the certification were investigated by questionnaire survey. The number of the respondants was 149, which was 33.7% of all certified CRCs.
The degree of job satisfaction was high, but the major problem of the certified CRCs was unstable employment. Additionally, the incentive in the working condition and the environment, and the change in self esteem after obtaining the certification were low.
Although the results of this survey are limited to consider the whole picture, an important point was realized ; it will be important to solve the problem of the unstableness of employment for certified CRCs.
