Interdisciplinery Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University was established in 1979. Recently many graduate schools are planning to reform themselves with the idea similar to ours. We are discussing to reconfirm our identity to discriminate our graduate school from them. A ward 'synthesis' involving to treat global problems can be selected as a key ward to represent the future planning for education in our graduate school.
In this essay the gist is expressed on the doctrine about the establishment of Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Hokuriku, which has been made a start the other day as an independent institute of graduate school for the first time in our country. The recent circumstances on the newly received educational revolution is explained in accordance with the histry of universities in our country and an outline is made clear of a pondered plan directing the establishment of the institute. The organization and the management system of the institute are shown with concrete methods of enforcement for new type educations and researches. Finally, my desire into the future is added.
Japanese higher education in science and technology has been successful since its beginning right after Meiji-restoration in a sence that it has been furnishing the best and the brightest engineers and researchers, responding to the demand from the contemporary industry. Now, there are many signs of changing situation. Japan will have to be one of the world center of excellence in research area instead of being the world factory. Her graduate school system must serve as an organ to foster the world research scientists and engineers, and must be remodeled to meet this task. The Japanese graduate system is reviewed and the way of remodeling it is proposed to make it meeting new role. A framework of the university-industry cooperation is drawn on the bases of the remodeling.
