Starting 1975, Hokkaido University has admitted graduates of technical colleges in Japan. In the initial stages, there are some faculty-members who openly express their concerns about these students performance in classes. The students of the first class proved that these worries were rootless, by their outstanding performances in their classes. Since then, the transfer students from technical colleges have shown that they are equally good as or better than most other students at Hokkaido University.
In this paper, We present outline of transfer system and the basic ideas of the system, and the details of the curriculum. Through our experiences of theachng these transfer students, we examine the transfer system, and education at the technical colleges. The future path of the technical colleges is also discussed.
